This referee clinic will take part over two days with both 4 hour sessions starting at 5:00PM on Thursday and Friday. Observations can be made by request at the 2022 Magic City SYC/RCC. Referees being observed as part of the clinic will be considered walk-on officials and not compensated for the events worked. All walk-on referees must be at least 13 years old and are expected to wear uniform in keeping with the uniform guidelines posted by the Referee Commission. The Referee Commission Guidelines are posted below:

About Mark:
Mark Stasinos Is a Certified Referee Instructor, has been in the sport over 50 years, is a
Fencing Master in all three weapons certifying in Switzerland in 1988. He has been an active
referee Nationally and Internationally and an instructor for the past 36 years. He has served in
many leadership positions within USA Fencing as Chairman of the National Tournament
Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Referee Commission and Vice-President of the Fencing
Organization, as well as Head Referee for NCAA Fencing.
He will conduct a Referee Seminar for those seeking to referee; improve their personal game
through a greater understanding of concepts and rules from the FIE; parents wanting to
understand actions and applications in support of their fencers and clubs.
To be a certified referee one must complete a seminar, take the online exam passing the
general section and weapon section(s) by 90% and have a practical evaluation and
observation. If over 18 one must pass the SafeSport training and background check before
they can referee or be observed. It is recommended to do these prior to the seminar and
observation.
The seminar will cover Foil. Epee and Sabre, competition protocols and rules, right of way,
penalties , field of play rules and responsibilities and an overview of Wheelchair refereeing.
