All Weapon Clinic SYFA/Lawrence University Coach Eric Momberg (Ages 10 and UP)

April 27th-28th Sat and Sun, runs 10:00am-4:00pm with lunch break. This camp is a camp designed for young fencers to work on attack development and creating and understanding of how to become more offensive minded players. Camp to be held at Bishop Elementary School Gym: 406 36th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901

In addition to honing their attacking strategies, fencers will engage in discussions on mental training and staying focused point to point. Rochester Fencing Clinic 4/27-4/28

Theme: Attacking -  Increased understanding of attack timing and mechanics

Learning Objectives: 

1) Students will be able to demonstrate the 3 times to attackand apply options for at least 2 of the 3

2) Students will be able to explain the 3 factors in attacking (when, where, how) and the order in which they apply to their weapon

3) Students will understand how strip position impacts attack timing

4) Students will be able to explain the difference between simple and compound attacks and the purpose of each

5) Students will show improvement in the timing physical execution of attacks, and grow confidence in the ability to attack.

Eric Momberg Bio:

Eric Momberg took the reins of the Lawrence fencing programs in October 2020 and has experienced success with the Vikings.

Momberg coached Lawrence's saber contingent to the 2023 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference title. Momberg also was chosen as the league's 2023 Men's Team Coach of the Year. 

During Momberg's time at Lawrence, the Vikings also have had nine fencers earn United States Fencing Coaches Association Division III All-America honors. Two of Momberg's fencers have qualified for the NCAA Championships since his arrival at Lawrence.

Momberg came to Lawrence from Northwestern University, where he has served as an assistant coach for the Wildcats' superb women's team since 2016.

A native of Santa Cruz, California, Momberg has worked with the squad at Northwestern for the past four years. In that time, the Wildcats won a pair of Midwest Fencing Conference team championships. Momberg was named the 2018-19 MFC Varsity Coach of the Year, and the 2019-20 MFC Assistant Coach of the Year. He also took home the USA Fencing Regional Spirit of Sport award in 2019-20.

Momberg coached multiple standouts at Northwestern, including Emine Yucel of Turkey and Yvonne Chart of Great Britain. Yucel was the 2018 Midwest Regional champion in sabre, a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier and the 2020 Turkish national champion. Chart was a two-time NCAA All-American in foil posted a top-four finish at the Women's World Cup.

Prior to his work at Northwestern, Momberg was the owner and head coach at the High Desert Fencing Alliance from 2005-16. Momberg also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nevada Reno from 2006-16 as a physical education instructor in fencing.

Momberg coached a number of standout fencers from across North and Central America as his fencers garnered more than 60 North American Cup medals from 2005-16. The national coach for Panama at the 2011 Pan Am Games, Momberg worked with Panama's top fencer through 2013. Panama captured a bronze medal in women's sabre at the 2011 Pan Am Games, a top-64 finish at the World Championships and a gold medal at the 2013 Central American Games.

A 2001 graduate of Nevada Reno, Momberg is the fifth coach in the history of the program, which went to varsity status in 1985.

Momberg and his wife, Diane, have a blue heeler named Malahkai.
