ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Age Requirements for 2017-2018 season which starts August 1, 2017: Y10: Birth years of 2007 – 2010 Y12: Birth years of 2005 – 2008 Y14: Birth years of 2003 – 2006 PLEASE! Do not register if you will not fall within these age categories. You will not be allowed to fence and we will not refund your entry fees. If you are too young and have NATIONAL points which would qualify you to fence in an older age category (see below) please notify the organizer (merritt55@comcast.net) to process your entry before the deadline. 1. Youth 12 – A fencer born after 2008 can fence in Y12 IF the fencer is on the National Youth 10 Point Standings at the time of the entry deadline for that tournament. 2. Youth 14 – A fencer born after 2006 can fence in Y14 IF the fencer is on the National Youth 12 Point Standings at the time of the entry deadline for that tournament. You must be a competitive USFA member or current member of a foreign federation if not a US citizen or permanent resident. REMINDER: USFA memberships expire July 31 so make sure you renew membership as soon as possible to ensure you are current in the database. If you are not a current member you will be required to join at the event. IN ORDER TO COMPETE YOU MUST CHECK-IN BEFORE THE LISTED DEADLINE WITH THE FOLLOWING: 1) a COMPETITIVE USA Fencing membership card (valid for the current competitive season); AND 2) the fencer is required to provide a fully-completed waiver form that has been signed by a parent or legal guardian; AND 3) the fencer is required to show a birth-certificate (copy acceptable) or other government-issued identification showing a birth date unless officially verified by USFA. To help us speed registration, please have all this paperwork ready at check in. This is especially critical if the fencer does not have a parent/guardian accompanying them. No one will be allowed to fence without a signed waiver form. Waivers are available through askfred and can be downloaded for your convenience. Awards to top 8. If you can not stay for award presentation, have someone pick up the medal. No medals will be given out before the award presentation. ENTRY FEE Registration is through askFRED.net. Payment must be made via Askfred.net. Registration is not considered complete until payment is made. The regular fee registration period begins on 05/01/17 and ends at 11:59pm EST on 08/13/17. The triple-fee registration period begins on 08/14/17 and ends at 11:59pm EST on 08/25/17. No online registrations will be accepted after 11:59 pm 8/25/17. All entries after 08/25/17 will be considered walk-ins. If your registration is shaded, on askfred, you are an “incomplete” registrant and you will be charged the walk-in event fee. May 1 - August 13 Regular Period Registration fee: $30 Regular Period Fee per Event: $40 August 14 - August 25 Triple-Fee Period Registration fee: $90 Triple-Fee Period Fee per Event: $120 August 26 - September 4 Walk-In Period Registration fee: $290 Walk-In Period Fee per Event: $120 Registration fees will not be refunded. There are no exceptions. Prior to August 13, 100% of the event fee will be refunded if the organizer (merritt55@comcast.net) is contacted with a refund request. After August 13, there will be no refunds of the event fee. Refunds will be processed no later than 4-6 weeks. No exceptions will be made for inability to register within stated deadlines. We are not responsible for any payment issues on askfred. Please register early to avoid problems and late fees. FORMAT One round of pools into a direct elimination table. Medals are awarded to top 8 finalists in each event. Classifications may be awarded provided the event is a Group C1 or higher. Seeding is by the following criteria, in this order: 1. Current National Rolling Point Standings according to age group and weapon. 2. Letter Classification with year. 3. Athletes with neither of the above are seeded randomly after the athletes who are seeded by the preceding factors. (i.e. wrong club, wrong rating, misspelled name, etc.) As this information comes directly from askFRED and the USFencing, fencers should make sure their FRED and USFencing profiles are up-to-date and match. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR ANY REASON. We will not hold an event because you are running late. Be at the venue 1/2 hour to 1 hour before your close of registration. Allow time for traffic, weapons check, and any other unexpected issues. Important tournament information, including any close of check-in time changes, will be communicated through the FRED e-mail system. Be sure your e-mail address is up-to-date. There is an additional parking area on Everett St just past Holton St on the right or before Holton St on the left depending on the direction you are traveling on Everett St. If you have entered the front parking lot, and need to get to the lot on Everett St. go around the building and go left out of the back lot. The Everett St lot is on the left before the traffic lights. Also, overflow parking is available in the Brighton Mills shopping center directly across the street. If you park in overflow please drop your child off first with appropriate paperwork so they can check in and get weapons checked without delay. DO NOT PARK in spaces that are marked RESERVED. EVER! You may be towed. FOOD Snacks, water, soft and sport drinks, coffee, etc. is available on site. Restaurants and sandwich shops are within walking distance (and most deliver) and there is a full service grocery store across the street which serves sandwiches and hot foods. The club has a lounge with tables/chairs for dining convenience. We recommend booking hotels early as they will fill up quickly. Uniform Requirements: All USA Fencing uniform requirements apply. This includes the mandatory use of knickers, long socks, and underarm protectors. Names are NOT required to be on the uniform. CONDUCTIVE FOIL BIBS ARE REQUIRED. 800N SABRE GLOVES ARE REQUIRED. Equipment Check will test the mask, lame (as appropriate), sabre cuffs, all gloves, mask cords and body cords. Items that have passed inspection will be specially marked, and directors will be checking for these marks prior to the start of fencing. Equipment check is required for all competitors, with no exceptions. Fencers only need to have their equipment passed once for the duration of the SYC. For Y10 events, a 30" or 32" blade is required. For Y12 and Y14, standard blade length of 30"-35" is permitted. These rules are strictly enforced. Early Weapon Check: TBD Preregistration opens on 05/01/2017. Preregistration closes on 08/13/2017.
