SWIFA 2022-2023 SEASON This tournament is a part of the Southwest Intercollegiate Fencing Association 2022-23 season. See https://swifafencing.org for payment and attendance requirements. Individuals participating can also pay online at https://swifafencing.org. It is $30 per participant. For teams and individuals, there is a $10 late registration fee to register for events at the door. SWIFA events are limited to registered member colleges and universities. If you are interested in your school becoming a member of SWIFA, email swifa.clubs@gmail.com or click the link above. ____ EVENT INFORMATION Saturday 4/22 11 AM - Registration closes 12 PM - Team pools for foil and epee begin 1 PM - Team pools for sabre begin As soon as pools are completed, we will tabulate and begin DEs until the venue closes. Sunday 4/23 8 AM - Return to venue; team DEs begin and continue from the day before. 12 PM - Individual pools begin; DEs will begin in time with the conclusion of pools Format Schools should list squads with a designated A, B, C, and optional alternate fencer. There is no limit to the number of squads a member school can bring. Only the highest placing squad from every school in each event will earn points for their school. Round 1 will consist of squad pools to decide seeding for Round 2's direct elimination bracket. Squad pools will fence CvC, BvB, and AvA. Squad DEs will rotate until one school wins 5 bouts. All bouts in team matches are to 5 points. Each squad that wins their bracket will be awarded a 1st place trophy, and the school that accumulates the most points will be awarded the Conference Championship trophy. Individual events will be mixed, follow the standard format of a USA Fencing event, and be unsanctioned. The top three individual competitors in each individual event will also medal. SWIFA San Marcos is being held at Texas State University. ____ REFEREES Part of SWIFA's mission is to educate the next generation of referees. SWIFA's goal is to promote, introduce, and develop the sport, as well as encourage and assist schools and their members in reaching their full potential as athletes, coaches, armorers, and referees.
