The Birmingham Fencing Club will be hosting a USFA Regional Youth Circuit Fencing Tournament. Join us for a Saturday of great fencing, and free snacks. This tournament has been sanctioned by the Alabama Division of the USFA, and the USFA Youth Development Committee through our RYC Coordinator, Kathy Vail (GA) Regional Youth Circuit Events Scheduled: Y10 Foil Epee Sabre Y12 Foil Epee Sabre Y14 Foil Epee Sabre ALL TIMES ARE LOCAL CENTRAL TIME Times listed are the close of registration time. Doors will open at 8:30 A.M. Fencing should begin approximately 30 minutes after the close of registration. At least 2 athletes must compete (have fenced) in a given RYC age/weapon event to fulfill eligibility requirements for the Y10 and/or Y12 NAC or for a first place finish to result in qualification to the Y14 Summer National Championships. Event results submitted with only 1 participant listed will not result in the athlete fulfilling qualification requirement. Tournament Format: All events will include a minimum of 1 round of pools. For Y10 and Y12 events, pools of 5 or 6 (whenever possible, equal pool sizes should be used) with 100% of the fencers promoted to a direct elimination tableau. For Y10 and Y12, direct elimination bouts are best 2 out of 3 – 5 touch bouts (each 5 touch bout is 3 minutes with a 1 minute break between) During the 1 minute breaks, ONE person, designated by the fencer (a team-mate, coach, or parent), may be on the strip with the fencer. For Y14 events, pools of 6 or 7 (whenever possible, equal pools sizes should be used) with 100% of the fencers promoted to a direct elimination tableau. Payment can be made upon arrival. All fencers must be current USFA members, and will need to show proof of membership, either by card or by fax from the USFA. (Alternatively, a fencer may be a member in good standing of another National Federation or a current FIE license holder.) You may renew your USFA membership or join at the tournament. Forms will be available at the tournament, or can be downloaded from the USFA website at http://www.usfencing.org If you do not have your USFA card with you when checking in, and we cannot verify membership from the USFA web site, you will be required to complete a new USFA form and pay the annual fee. The form and payment will be returned to you upon proof of USFA membership subsequent to the tournament. RYC Fencers must have a parent or guardian signature (not a coach) on their USFA membership form (if renewing or joining at the tournament) and on the tournament entry form. Mask checks will be performed prior to competition, and there will be weight/shim tests for all weapons brought onto the fencing strip. You MUST wear a plastron, and pants/knickers that conform to USFA guidelines. No sweatpants will be permitted. All USFA rules apply. At the end of each bout, fencers are required to sign pool sheets and DE slips before leaving the strip. USFA rules will be enforced throughout the competition. Pre-registration is important!
