Tournament: CWRU Collegiate Open
Date(s): 04/20/2008
Location: Case Western Reserve University's Veale Gym, Cleveland OH
Please note the following changes on this tournament as per Case Western Reserve University Fencing Club President which was sent out to pre-registered fencers:
Dear Fencers,
You are receiving this email because you are preregistered for the CWRU Collegiate Open this coming Sunday. At the time of this email, we had 9 non-case students signed up for the event which gives us an income of $90. If we open the gym at 8:00 a.m. we pay the school $25 per hour till 1 pm since it's normal hours are from 1-10pm on Sunday. This leaves us short, not including paying officials which we budgeted at least $150. So we have decided to do some quick re-planning of the event.
We will still be fencing this coming Sunday. We will still have strips and scoring machines. But fencing will start at 1:30 pm, when the Gym opens. Also, being that the two major schools pre-registered are Case and Oberlin we will reformat things somewhat. It is now officially a schrimage fun fence day. We will be fencing 1:30 pm until 7:00pm or later if people choose. The entry fee is being changed to a floor fee of a flat $5 per person for coming. There will be no officials. This will be friendly matches with pool and DE format for each weapon. Women will fence with the men. We would really just like everyone to fence everyone else there. We would like it to be an atmosphere of just grabbing a partner and fencing until you are sick of it and then finding someone new.
(If you have a complete scoring machine, it can still be put to good use for us.)
At the same time as we are fencing, CWRU club will have an open invite to all Case students who have never fenced before but are curious to come and try the sport out. We will have a separate dry strip area with student coaches to allow new people to try out the sport. Obviously non Case fencers who are experienced are welcome to give new people pointers or discuss technique with other fencers. Please respond to this email with a simple yes/no for whether you plan on attending the event so we can have an idea of how many people to plan for.
Thank you very much. Hope to see you on Sunday.
Jesse âCWRU Fencing club President
