Come and join us for an informative Referee Clinic led by Abbas Fadel, certified referee instructor and highly respected national referee.

Schedule:
    Doors will open at 9:45 AM EDT with the instructional seminar to commence at 10:00 AM. The clinic is anticipated to last 6 to 7 hours followed by an informal competition during which Dr. Fadel can observe the directing abilities of those desiring to be practically evaluated at that time.
Purpose:
    To address the severe shortage of certified referees in Indiana. A certified referee must be present to serve on the bout committee of any tournament at which a USAFencing rating can be awarded. To become a certified referee one must meet the following criteria:
  • 1) Master the course materials available at:

  • 2) Attend an official FOC-sanctioned clinic.
  • 3) Pass the online “written” examination by obtaining 90% correct on both the general section and one or more weapon specific sections. (To direct at NAC’s, certification in at least two weapons is needed.) A referee receives a rating of “P” in each weapon passed. Further rating improvements (1-10) can be obtained by being evaluated in a practical. It is recommended that one take and pass the the written examination prior to the practical.
  • 4) Give a practical demonstration of one’s refereeing abilities while being observed by a certified referee instructor, Abbas Fadel, in this case. (Dr. Fadel is also willing to observe clinic attendees direct at later upcoming tournaments.)

    $75.00 payable by cash or check to Abbas Fadel at the door.
