Please check back for updates. ------------------------- ______________________ The Southern California Scholastic Fencing League individual foil events are open to all Middle School and High School students. Bring your school ID and proof of USFA Competitive or USFA Access membership. HIGH SCHOOL - GRADES 9 to 12 MIDDLE SCHOOL - GRADES 6 to 8 If your school does not issue a school ID, please bring proof of school enrollment, i.e. registration, letter from school stating grade, etc. COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS -(2022-23 SEASON): All participants inside venue must show Vaccine Card or proof of Negative Covid Test within 72 hours. All participants inside venue must must wear a facial mask covering nose and mouth. (for more information, see below.) Please arrive one hour prior to event to register, go through Equipment Check, and warm up. LOCATION: Chaminade High School - Uribe Sports Center Gym 7500 Chaminade Ave West Hills, CA 91304 NOTE: Enter into parking lot off Cohasset Street. TOURNAMENT FEES: Non-league School Fencer: $20.00 Registration and $40.00 per event (Total $60.00) League School Fencer: $10.00 PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE on Askfred.net is Thursday, Sept 29, 2022. THERE WILL BE NO LATE REGISTRATION and NO SIGN UPS ON THE DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT DUE TO COVID PROTOCOLS. If you are not enrolled in below mentioned league schools, you are considered a non-league school fencer. LEAGUE SCHOOLS Brentwood School Chaminade College Prep Harvard-Westlake School Kern County Charter Ly Lycee Francais Oakwood School Central High #9 Vistamar Yeshiva University of Los Angeles Immaculate Heart International School of Los Angeles - Burbank Campus Format: There will be one round of pools with 100% advancing to direct elimination in all individual competitions. The direct elimination bouts will be fifteen touch bouts, with the appropriate breaks determined by which weapon is being fenced. Equipment: A full fencing Jacket (FIE not required), a plastron, a glove, and fencing knickers. Socks must cover all the leg not covered by the knickers. Women's equipment must include breast protectors made of metal or rigid material inside the jacket. The appropriate glove, lame and mask for the weapon being fenced are required. Please wear shoes with non-marking or white soles to all competitions. All foil fencers must have a conductive foil bib on their mask and use a mask cord. Foil Fencers: USFA Foil "Padded" chest guards will be enforced and checked. Material must have the SEMI technical mark at the center of the upper edge, per USA Fencing Rules of Competition, section m.25.4(c) Leon Paul brand MASK owners: If you have the Leon Paul "X-Change" mask with the plastic disk in back, please note that a secondary neck strap is now REQUIRED for all domestic events. The secondary strap requirement will be enforced and non-conforming equipment will be disallowed. (The L.P X-Change mask model with the more traditional tongue can be worn without the secondary strap.) Please consult your coach or the armorer with any questions. Inspections: Masks and gloves will be inspected by the armorer. Weapons will be tested on the strip. You will not be allowed to fence with weapons that do not conform to USFA standards. Reminder: All Varsity High School Fencers must fence in either/or both the #1 or #2 Foil Individual to be considered for a High School Varsity "A" Team for the SoCal Scholastic League Foil Team Tournament. All fencers must fence in one scholastic league individual event or Novice event to qualify to fence in the Team Events: TEAM FOIL -- March 19, 2023 at Harvard-Westlake TEAM EPEE/SABRE -- April 16, 2023 at Chaminade Results tabulated from the Individual Foil #1 on October 2, 2022 and Individual Foil #2 on January 29, 2023 will be used to determine medals. Medals will be awarded through 8th place. By entering this tournament, we will be following the codes of conduct set by USA Fencing. Please carefully read the codes of conduct for spectators, coaches, and members. https://www.usafencing.org/codes-of-conduct The Southern California Scholastic League follows the SafeSport and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies as approved by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. https://www.usafencing.org/safe-sport For more information on the SoCal Scholastic League, please check out our website at https://www.schsfence.org/ COVID PROTOCOLS: Everyone in attendance -- including coaches, athletes, spectators and staff -- must provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative covid test taken within 72 hours of arrival to the venue. MASKS: Everyone in attendance ages 3 and older, including coaches, athletes, spectators and staff must wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose at all times, except fencers during live competition. According to the USA Fencing mask mandate, masks must be two-layer cloth masks or surgical face coverings. Single-layer cloth masks, gaiters, bandannas are not permitted. Social distancing: We encourage everyone to practice social distancing measures while in the venue. Handshakes: Athletes should salute at the conclusion of a bout instead of shaking hands with each other, the referee and coaches. STAYING HOME WHEN APPROPRIATE: If you are feeling unwell, please stay home. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, are showing COVID-19 symptoms. If you have had a close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19. If you have any signs of the following:. • Fever or feeling feverish (chills, sweating) • New cough • Difficulty breathing • Sore throat • Muscle aches or body aches • Vomiting or diarrhea • New loss of taste or smell TEMPERATURE CHECK Temperature check may be performed prior to entry of venue. If you have a fever, you will be asked to leave.
