Cutting Edge and Globus Fencing Clubs are pleased to invite you to be part of our pre-season "Get Back to Work" combined training session. Cutting Edge and Globus are the dominant sabre clubs in Region 5, accounting for a majority of all regional patches awarded in the 2018-2019 season. Head Coaches David Sierra and Hyo Kun Lee will oversee the training sessions each bringing their unique approaches and insight into sabre fencing. The first two days will feature specific training methodologies from each of our clubs, and the third day will focus on situational and competitive bouting. Assistant Coaches Ziad ElSissy, Deniz Berkay, and Kate Sierra will be in attendance. Ages 12-18 from any club are welcome to participate. CEFC and Globus fencers, please register on askFRED but do NOT pay the fee there. Please pay your respective club. Other fencers, the charge is $300 for the three days of training. The location for this combined training session will be Cutting Edge Fencing Center, 7601 Boulevard 26, Suite 131, North Richland Hills, Texas. With 10 full size fencing strips, a comprehensive workout area, and metal pistes, CEFC provides an exceptional training environment for a clinic of this type. Daily schedule: 9:00 - 10:00 AM Athlete Yoga and Warmups 10 AM - 12 PM Morning Training Session 12 PM - 1:30 PM Lunch 1:30 PM - 4 PM Afternoon Training Session Athletes should bring comfortable workout clothing and full fencing uniform, including lame and knickers each day. For lunch times, please either bring a lunch or there are several healthy options within walking distance of CEFC. About the staff: Hyo Kun Lee was selected as a member of the Korean National Fencing Team in 1984, as the youngest fencer in Korea's history. He competed in many significant tournaments, including the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, the 11th Asian Olympics (Silver Individual, Silver Team), the 1991 Asian Cup (Bronze Individual, Silver Team), the 1993 Asian Cup (Gold Team), the 12th Asian Olympics (Silver Individual, Silver Team), and the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. Coach Lee was the Korean National Women's Fencing Team Coach and the head coach for Dongeui University in 1999. He then moved on to coaching the men's and women's national Korean fencing coach until 2017. Lee Hyo Kun has coached many skilled fencers and Olympians, including Gu Bongil, Won Wooyoung, Oh Sanguk, Kim Jung Hwan, and many more! Maestro David Sierra is the Founder and Head Coach of Cutting Edge Fencing. Involved in the sport of fencing since 1993, Maestro Sierra is certified as a Fencing Master by the US Fencing Coaches Association and the International Academy of Arms. He also attended the Pan-American Fencing Coaching Education Course in El Salvador as the USA Representative in 2017. His students have won numerous medals at Regional and National level competitions, and he has trained athletes who attend strong NCAA programs including Notre Dame University, The United States Air Force Academy and Stevens Institute of Technology. Maestro Sierra currently serves on the Certification and Accreditation Board for the US Fencing Coaches Association. A scientist by formal education, he brings an analytical and systematic approach to training athletes.
