VENUE CHANGE Events with 3 or fewer fencers do not have to be fenced; however, since registrations are allowed at the door, you do have to show up prepared to fence. The Disision Officers felt it was a great unconvince to the Lone Star staff to open their club to just sit all day waiting to see if anyone wanted to register at the door. If you qualified for Division II at your Division Qualifier and at that same time earned a higher classification, you are eligible for the National Championship. Qualification Pathways for Div III: Fencers must meet eligibility requirements AND: • Fencers must meet eligibility and classification requirements as of the entry deadline AND • Place in the top 25 percent (round up) of the total number of “D”, “E”, or “U” fencers competing in the current season division’s Division II Qualifying competition (when Division II and Division III qualifying competition held together) OR • If separate Division III qualifying competition in the current season held by division, then top 25 percent of the field will qualify for Division III National Championships OR • Be on the Division IA or Division II Regional Open Circuit point standings, if classification eligible, at the regular fee entry deadline for these Championships OR • Qualified for Division II National Championships, if classification eligible UPDATE – If you have qualified for Division III, meet the age and classification standard on the day you register online for the Championship, you are eligible to fence in that event at the National Championship. If you qualified for Division III at your Division Qualifier and at that same time earned a higher classification, you are eligible for the National Championship. Qualifying Pathways for Y-14: • Be on the Youth 14 National Point Standings at the regular entry fee deadline OR • Earn at least 150 Y14 Regional Points during the current season (Total points = an athlete’s top three point results) OR • Place in the top 25 percent (round up) of the fencer’s division’s Y14 National Championship qualifying competition. FEES: Through midnight 3/31 $25 Registration $25 Per Event Additional late fee of $200 after midnight 3/31 and at the door $225 Registration $ 25 Per Event NORTH TEXAS DIVISION MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED Participation requires a competitive or Access membership. New in 2021, the Access Membership is for a wide range of individuals within the fencing community. Access members can compete at all sanctioned local tournaments. In order to compete at Regional or National tournaments, Access Members must upgrade to the Competitive membership. [Disclaimer] If you are ALREADY QUALIFIED, DO NOT FENCE. Fencers who have earned national points are the only athletes who will be skipped over. Athletes who have already qualified via a regional path will not be skipped over at any division qualifier. If an event has three or fewer entries, this event will not be fenced and the qualifications will be processed (up to three will qualify). However, ALL fencers must be present at the venue at the close of registration. BRING PROOF OF PAID COMPETITIVE MEMBERSHIP and your parent/guardian SIGNED WAIVER or you will not be allowed to fence. AGE ELIGIBILITY Youth 14 -- 2007-2010 Div 2/3 --- 12/31/2008 or earlier SPECIAL NOTE FOR FENCERS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A HIGHER AGE GROUP EVENT BY VIRTUE OF POSITION ON THE NRPS At this time, Askfred will not let you register and pay for an event for which you are not age eligible. If you are eligible to fence in an event by virtue of being on the NRPS in a lower age category, please contact Brenda Waddoups, waddoups@att.net with the name of the athlete, and the events the fencer wishes to fence, and proof of NRPS. You will be advised on how to proceed to pay for the events. Please verify your eligibility BEFORE doing this! No refunds will be given for ineligible fencers who mistakenly enter. Your weapon rating(s) - letter and year 5. The events you are entering 6. Contact information (telephone and email address) Check must be received by the close of regular registration. REFUND POLICY: The NTX Division follows the refund policy of the USFA. Refund requests must be made prior to April 1st, 2022 at midnight. The registration fee is not refundable. The event fee will be refunded less FRED fees and postage. No refunds will be issued for event no-shows. Refunds will be processed within 3 weeks after the tournament. No refunds will be given for requests made after April 1, 2022. PETITION PROCESS: In exceptional cases, when a fencer is unable to participate in the Division Qualifier, or in Regional qualifying events, the fencer may petition the National Office. Information may be found in the Athlete Handbook online in paragraph 2.6.5. If a fencer meets the classification requirement when his or her application is processed by the Division, and subsequently earns a higher classification, the fencer retains eligibility for that tournament. FENCE OFF FOR THIRD: If there are more than three fencers, but fewer than 13, third place must be fenced. Where there are 13 or more fencers in the final results, third place does not have to be fenced. We will not fence an event if 3 or fewer fencers are signed up as all three will qualify. Fencers will be listed as DNF (did not fence). Per USFA guidelines, to qualify you must still pay registration and event fees and be present at the tournament. Waiver of Liability The North Texas Division Waiver of Liability is required to be filled out and signed (by parent or guardian, not a coach). Initial seeding will be by classification and year, then randomly. EQUIPMENT GUIDELINES: Standard fencing uniforms without any rips, tears, or holes are required. Warm-up pants are not allowed. Names on uniforms are not required. Fencing glove must cover half of the forearm with no rips or holes. Standard fencing plastron (underarm protector) is required; women must wear chest protector. Mask must pass a 12K punch test. Elastic strap at back of mask is required. Cords, lames, and masks are subject to standard electrical resistance checks. At least two working body cords, mask cords, and 2 working weapons are required. There is not a vendor at the Division Qualifier. If your equipment is questionable, bring spares from your club.
