About AskFRED
Our Mission
AskFRED exists to make competitive fencing more accessible. We provide the tools that tournament organizers need to market and run events; and that fencers need to find, register for, and track their results at competitions across the world.
Our Story
FRED — short for "Fencing Results and Events Database" (thanks to Bill Nary for the name) — was founded in 2002 to solve a simple problem: fencers had no central place to find tournaments to fence in. What started as a small database has grown into the primary platform used by the North American fencing community.
Over two decades, FRED has tracked hundreds of thousands of tournament results, processed millions of registrations, and served as the connective tissue between fencers, clubs, and tournament organizers. In the 2022–2023 season, the platform was rebuilt from the ground up to ensure stability and to bring the experience up to modern standards.
What We Do
- For fencers: Find upcoming tournaments, register online, view results, and track your competitive history — all in one place.
- For tournament organizers: Create and manage events, handle registrations and payments, communicate with participants, and publish results.
- For clubs: Monitor member activity, track qualifications, and stay connected with the competitive calendar.
AskFRED is available on the web, as well as on iOS and Android.
