12/1/2021 - UPDATED EVENT SCHEDULE ANNOUNCEMENT: COVID-19 Protocols are listed below. Please check back for COVID-19 Protocol Updates. Also, Times of events are subject to change. The final schedule will be posted on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. All fencers and visitors must be fully vaccinated OR provide a negative test result performed within the week of the tournament. Please have fencers test results submitted in by 3pm, Friday, December 3, 2021. (See below instructions) Two spectators allowed per fencer, with above covid requirements. Bring proof with you. RAPID COVID TESTING https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/covid-19-testing For the December 5th event, please get tested on NOV 29th, 30th, or DEC 1st. Results will be 24-48 hours later. The Southern California Scholastic Fencing League individual foil events are open to all Middle School and High School students. Bring your school ID and proof of USFA Competitive or USFA Access membership. HIGH SCHOOL - GRADES 9 to 12 MIDDLE SCHOOL - GRADES 6 to 8 If your school does not issue a school ID, please bring proof of school enrollment, i.e. registration, letter from school stating grade, etc. REQUIREMENT: Proof of full Covid Vaccination or Negative Covid Test. The Covid Test result must be done within a week prior to the tournament and have results turned in by 2pm Friday, Dec 3, 2021. (This applies to EVERYONE inside Venue - Fencers, Coaches, Referees, staff, etc. in attendance) LEAGUE FENCERS - SUBMIT YOUR RECORDS TO YOUR FENCING TEAM COACH NON-LEAGUE FENCERS - Provide Proof Full Vaccination OR a copy of a NEGATIVE COVID Test. The COVID Test (PCR Recommended) should be emailed to Carla at carlacorbit@hotmail.com If your records are not submitted by 2pm, Friday, Dec. 3, 2021 you will be scratched from the tournament. High School Fencers will be eligible to earn USA Fencing classifications (ratings). This tournament is unsanctioned and no ratings will be awarded. This is a Novice Tournament for fencers who started fencing after March 1, 2020. This season’s Novice Tournament takes into account COVID Year. Usually this is for fencers with 1 year or less fencing experience. (Example: if you fenced 2 years of epee and decided to switch to saber and only fenced saber for 2 months - you are NOT a Novice saber fencer) Fencers must NOT have fenced in any previous SoCal Fencing League Novice tournaments and is an unrated fencer. LEAGUE SCHOOLS Brentwood School Chaminade Middle School And High School Harvard Westlake Middle School and High School Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation Lakeview Middle School (Victorville) Le Lycee Francais Central LA #9 (VAPA) Oakwood High School Vistamar High School Yeshiva University of Los Angeles Format: There will be one round of pools with 100% advancing to direct elimination in all individual competitions. The direct elimination bouts will be fifteen touch bouts, with the appropriate breaks determined by which weapon is being fenced. Equipment: A full fencing Jacket (FIE not required), a plastron, a glove, and fencing knickers. Socks must cover all the leg not covered by the knickers. Women's equipment must include breast protectors made of metal or rigid material inside the jacket. The appropriate glove, lame and mask for the weapon being fenced are required. Please wear shoes with "non-marking" or white soles to all competitions. All foil fencers must have a conductive foil bib on their mask, and all saber fencers must use a USFA Fencing approved 800N FIE glove. Foil Fencers: USFA Foil "Padded" chest guards will be enforced. Material must have the SEMI technical mark at the center of the upper edge, per USA Fencing Rules of Competition, section m.25.4(c) **Facial Masks, with more that 2 layers, must be worn at all times during the tournament and while fencing. **There will be more information on safety procedures and social distancing procedures. Inspections: Masks and gloves will be inspected by the armorer. Weapons will be tested on the strip. You will not be allowed to fence with weapons that do not conform to USFA standards. For weapons that fail inspection on the strip, no card will be issued but you must get another conforming weapon. Reminder: All Varsity High School Fencers must fence in either/or both the #1 or #2 Foil Individual to be considered for a High School Varsity "A" Team for the SoCal Scholastic League Foil Team Tournament. All fencers must fence in one scholastic league individual event or Novice event to qualify to fence in the Team Event. By entering this tournament, we will be following the codes of conduct set by USA Fencing. TEMPERATURE CHECK Temperature check will be performed prior to entry of venue. If you have a fever, you will be asked to leave. MASKING Everyone inside the venue will be required to wear masks at all times regardless of vaccination status. Masks must be at least two-ply (no neck gaiters). Masks must cover nose and mouth. PHYSICAL DISTANCING Maintain at least 6 feet apart. No sharing of beverages or food. No handshaking. LIMITATIONS ON OBSERVERS Only 2 Spectators are allowed to accompany the fencer.
