COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
At Sword Masters we appreciate the fencing community that has put their trust in us not only deliver an incredible fencing experience, but to do so in a way thatâs safe for them and their families.
I want to take this opportunity to share with you how Sword Masters is committed to safely operating the Orlando Challenge at one of the best venues in America.
Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic Sword Masters Club has worked diligently alongside health experts, sports industry leaders, government officials and fellow fencers, coaches and referees to make our already strict health, safety and cleanliness standards even stronger. We have developed a comprehensive, state of the art plan for everyone participating in the Orlando Challenge to follow and are committed to keeping you informed of the steps weâre taking to keep you safe. Without question, we want to provide our fencers with incredible and inspirational experiences; but we also want you safe when youâre here. This tournament is subject to Florida state laws and orders regarding COVID-19. We will adhere to such laws as they apply with changing circumstances. To such a purpose we are taking every step to keep everyone safe and have developed some Covid-19 guidelines, requirements and protocols. We ask that you read these carefully.
Health Measures
The Orlando Challenge venue counts with several touch-less hand sanitizer stations throughout the complex for your convenience.
Athletic trainer on site during all events.
When anyone arrives at the Orlando Challenge, they must undergo and pass temperature screening using the CDC temperature recommendation.
Fencers must wear appropriate attire that their fencing uniform can be put on over in public areas. Changing completely in the venue, including restrooms is not permitted.
Fencers are not allowed to touch the scoring machine, weights, ships, remote or scoresheets.
Fencers must refrain from shaking hands after bouts or making any intentional physical contact.
Fencers must refrain from shouting or screaming, including after scoring a touch. Referees will warn fencers, but subsequent violations can result in penalties.
Fencers are not required to sign the score sheet or DE slips. They can check the results at www.fencingtimelive.com instead and report any error to the Bout Committee.
Once a fencer is eliminated from their event, they must pack their equipment up and leave the venue immediately, unless they are in the top 8. Individuals may not stay and socialize, watch remaining bouts or to observe the medal ceremony.
In order to avoid crowds, we will not have screens with results at the venue, but live tournament results and tournament progress will be posted on Fencing Time Live.
Face Coverings
Anyone inside the venue must wear face coverings at all times.
Face masks will be sold at the venue for anyone who may have forgotten theirs.
Physical Distancing
The Orlando Challenge is fortunate enough to have partnered with a remarkable venue, the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, this top of the line, enormous and luxurious venue exceeds all expectation for safety and guidelines. Our enormous venue is more than 110,000 square feet to provide proper social distancing.
We have spaced the event schedules to have 4 hours in between each block of events, we did this to ensure that no large crows gather at any moment (Not to mention to ensure that all events start and finish right on time).
To promote proper physical distancing during the tournament, we have signage and markings in the hallways to identify appropriate physical distancing.
Seating areas, in our amazing venue, will be modified to maintain physical distancing while still providing a great view of the tournament. Chairs will be placed on the floor in designated locations to allow for social distancing, It is not permitted to move the chairs from their designated position.
No personal chairs or alternative seating options are allowed in the venue.
Being a youth event, fencers may be accompanied by 1 individual inside the venue (a parent/guardian and/or a coach) who will receive a special pass per event. No additional family members or spectators are allowed on the floor, The pass must be worn visible and around the neck at all times. Anybody without a pass will be escorted out. The number of accompanying adults permitted inside the venue will depend on the situation at the particular time, if the current health situation changes by the time the event happens, and more spectators are allowed to come, we will promptly notify all the registrants.
Only one coach/parent is allowed to assist a fencer on strip during bouts. Coach/parent will stand in a clearly designated area at the end of the strip and will be instructed not to step out of this area until the bout ends. Violators will be escorted out of the venue. Fencers, please relay this information to your coach.
Clubs will receive 2 coach passes good for the entire event, please contact us at info@swordmastersclub.com to request your passes. The pass must be worn visible and around the neck at all times. Anybody without a pass will be escorted out.
We ask that coaches and parents refrain from shouting or screaming at fencers in order to avoid the spread of any droplets or particles.
Cleaning & Sanitation To protect the health and safety of our guests sanitization of the building is cleaned and sanitized every day. The entire building, chairs, backboards, and common areas have been disinfected. This process will be repeated before the Orlando Challenge.
Sick Policies We kindly ask you to stay home if you are feeling sick.
COVID-19 Training Everyone working at the Orlando Challenge will receive COVID-19 specific training to cover all operating procedures. The training will include the most current guidance from the CDC and other health advisors.
Enhanced cleaning protocols will be implemented at arrival areas and for high-contact surfaces. We are implementing contactless registration to keep you safe.
Live tournament results and tournament progress will be posted on www.fencingtimelive.com
Given the size of our venue and the quality of organization of the Orlando Challenge we know this will be a safe, joyful and organized tournament that promises to be memorable for fencers and their families.
Of course, Covid-19 is a situation thatâs changing all the time - we will continue to monitor the latest information from health experts, local, state and federal authorities and USFA and make the necessary changes to keep you safe and informed.
