The Championships are open to all USFA members of any rating who are currently attending high school or an equivalent institution and meet Junior age limits. Competitors must possess a COMPETITIVE membership in USA Fencing.

Denise O'Connor High School Championship. The High School Championship events are open to all USA Fencing fencers, regardless of rating or residence, who are currently attending high school or an equivalent institution and meet Junior age limits. Born in 1998 through 2004. IMPORTANT - FOIL MASKS WITH CONDUCTIVE BIBS AND CURRENT USA FENCING MEMBERSHIP ARE MANDATORY!!! Fencing biography of honoree Denise O'Connor: http://usfencinghalloffame.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=96&Itemid=52 A two-time Olympian, (1964, 1976), she fenced in five World Championships (1965, '66, '69, '70, '75), as well as the Pan American Games of 1975(Bronze Medal). She was the winner of the 1971 Terre des Hommes in Montreal. For nearly two decades, she was a nationally ranked women's foilist (1959-1976). She captained the Salle Santelli Women's Foil Team to five national titles. She was also a 3-time chair of the New Jersey Division and coach for over a decade at Brooklyn College before becoming Assistant Director of Athletics. In 1975 and '76, she was NIWFA College Coach of the Year. Her students have become champions and successful coaches in their own right. Events Scheduled: Saturday, December 23 Junior Women's Epee 8:30AM Junior Women's Foil 11:30AM Junior Women's Sabre 2:00PM Junior Men's Epee 8:30AM Junior Men's Foil 11:30AM Junior Men's Sabre 1:30PM Fencers should be at the venue 1 hour prior to the close of check in. Their equipment will be inspected by armorers and stamped before fencers will be able to compete. Registration and Entry Fees: Regular registration (online and on time) $45 per event. Late registration online(after 12/20 and at the door) $100 per event. Walk-in registration and/or payment at the door - $100 per event. No Refunds after December 7, 2016. USA Fencing Membership is mandatory for this event. To join online for the season at a cost of $75 for a competitive membership go to https://www.railstation.org/usfencing/MembershipRegistration.aspx You can join on the day of the event with a paper membership application. Add $10 for the paper membership processing fee. Make your check payable to 'USA Fencing.' Format and Sanctioning: The tournament is sanctioned by the New Jersey Division of USA Fencing. The format for each event consists of a round of pools followed by a direct elimination round. 100% of the fencers are promoted from pools to the direct elimination round. There is no fence-off for third place. Medals will be awarded for 1st through 8th place for each event. All fencers are required to comply with the USA Fencing standards for uniforms and equipment. Each fencer should bring at least two functional weapons and body cords that meet USA Fencing requirements. There are no exceptions to the attire and equipment rules. You must have a current USA Fencing membership or join USA Fencing at the event. You must show your USA Fencing card or have proof that payment has been made.
