This event is a Westchester-Rockland Division qualifier for two national-level tournaments: the 2021 Junior Olympics and the 2021 Summer National Championships (July 3-12, 2021, in Philadelphia, PA). Qualifier event registration is restricted to members of the Westchester-Rockland Division of USA Fencing. Please be sure you have an email registered with Askfred so that the event organizer can contact you in the event of schedule changes or other event-related matters. Medals will be awarded to top-3 finishers. Schedule of Events: Times posted are close of check-in. Fencers should plan to arrive 30 minutes early and must bring proof of current USA Fencing membership and a photo ID. Note that the schedule is subject to change. Registration fee is non-refundable. THERE WILL BE NO WALK-INS. NO EXCEPTIONS. Qualifying for Junior Olympics: The top 25% of the competitors in each event qualify for the Junior Olympics. Junior (U20) age group: Fencers must be born in 2001 through 2007. A fencer born after 2007 can fence in the Junior (Under 20) Championships qualifying tournament. if the fencer is on the National Cadet (U17) point standings at the time of the entry deadline for that tournament. Cadet (U17) age group: Fencers must be born in 2004 through 2007. A fencer born after 2007 can fence in the Cadet (Under-17) Junior Olympic Championships qualifying tournament, IF the fencer is on the National Youth 14 point standings at the time of the entry deadline for that tournament. Qualifying for the Division 2 and Division 3 National Championships: This tournament is the qualification path for Westchester-Rockland Division fencers who wish to compete in the Division II or Division III Summer National events and who have not already qualified for Div 1A/2/3 through a ROC event. For more information on qualification paths to USA Fencing's National Championship Tournament: https://www.usafencing.org/news_article/show/1151513 One registration, one event with two outcomes, one for Div 2 and the other for Div 3. Those who fence in the Westchester-Rockland Qualifier must be either residents those counties or be a member of a registered Westchester-Rockland Division Club for the 2020-2021 fencing season. Open to Westchester-Rockaldn Division Fencers with a C, D, E, or no classification. Fencers must be US citizens or permanent US residents to participate in this tournament and the Summer National Championships. Your USA Fencing membership must indicate Westchster-Rockland Division and that you represent the USA. Fencers must be US citizens or permanent US residents to participate in this tournament and the Summer National Championships. "Senior" refers to a USA Fencing requirement that all fencers participating in open events must have birth years of 2007 and earlier. Format The format for each event consists of a round of pools with 100% promoted to the direct elimination round. There is no fence-off for third place if there are at least 13 fencers in the event. Check-in deadline times are subject to change. Please plan to arrive 30 minutes before each posted deadline for equipment check. All fencers are required to comply with the USA Fencing standards for uniforms and equipment. Each fencer must bring at least two functional weapons, two body cords, and two mask cords for foil and sabre that meet USA Fencing requirements. Testing of weapons will be done on strip. There are no exceptions to the attire and equipment rules. Fencers should arrive at the venue dressed in whites as changing in the rest rooms WILL NOT be permitted. Organizer will test fencers’ masks. COVID-19 Protocols and Guidelines: An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By participating in this tournament, fencers voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. Each fencing competitor is allowed ONE (1) “plus-one” that can be a parent or private coach or guardian. No other spectators are allowed to attend this tournament. The organizer reserves the right to amend the plus one rule in order to remain in compliance with Westchester County’s current indoor gathering regulations. Everyone attending is required to wear personal face coverings (approved by USA Fencing) over the nose and mouth at all times while inside, including fencers under their fencing masks while fencing. Please see the paragraph below from USA Fencing's Best Practices for the Resumption of Local Events regarding acceptable personal face coverings. All attendees at USA Fencing tournaments will be required to wear a mask at all times, including athletes during competition. Face coverings must be two-layer cloth masks or surgical face coverings. Single-layer gaiters, bandannas, masks with vents and the Leon Paul mask or shield or similar face coverings are not permitted. Athletes who do not comply with this policy will not be allowed to compete. Other individuals, including spectators and coaches, who do not wear a mask or face covering will be assessed a Group 3 penalty for “any person not on strip disturbing order” which includes a yellow card warning for the first infraction and a black card resulting in expulsion from the venue for a second infraction. There will be no exceptions, for athletes or any other tournament attendee, to the mask mandate. Allowance is made to remove the personal face covering briefly in order to drink liquid or eat a snack at the venue. If a fencer or “plus one” cannot wear a face covering for any reason, they should not register or attend the tournament. Individuals, including fencers, plus-one’s, referees or others, should stay home and must not enter the fencing venue or competition if they have tested positive for, or are showing COVID-19 symptoms. A non-contact temperature check will be required by tournament organizers on each person arriving at the tournament location. Any person who has a temperature check above levels typically prescribed by health or sports authorities (usually ≥ 100.3°F), and/or is displaying any Covid-19 symptoms or is unwell will not be admitted to the tournament location and should seek further medical attention. Social distancing at the venue will be required. There will be salutes in place of handshakes after every bout. Fencers should refrain from screaming or shouting after touches. When the fencer is eliminated from the tournament, they and their plus one must exit the tournament venue immediately.
