Van Ness Ave. San Francisco, CA 94110 website: http://halberstadtfc.com ABOUT THE CLINIC The clinic will be led by Soren Thompson and Mark Wheeler. This one-day clinic will include: -A review of Soren’s system for developing physical, mental and technical capabilities to create a cohesive fencing “game" -Speed and power training for veteran/adult fencers -What we learned from training during the pandemic (and beyond!), including footwork and basic bladework drills you can do at home or at gym on your own -Practicing a variety of footwork and bladework preparations to help you identify strategic approaches that work best for you Expect a full day of strategic review, drills, and bouting. PRIVATE LESSONS WITH SOREN Soren will be available for private lessons on Saturday and Monday: Saturday 6 pm -9 pm Monday 9am -4pm, 7pm-10pm ABOUT SOREN Soren Thompson has been fencing for over 30 years. He represented the United States at numerous international championships, including two Olympic Games, 11 World Championships, two Pan American Games, and two World University Games. Soren was inducted into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame in 2018. His highest US ranking was #1 and highest World Ranking was #7. He is a Team World Champion, Pan American Team Champion, two-time Individual and Team Americas Zonal Champion, 9-time US National Champion, NCAA Champion, US Junior Olympic, and US Junior National Champion. Following a career-threatening injury in 2007, Soren developed a functional, process-based system that he used to revamp his approach to fencing leading to a qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games, the first World Championship for a US men’s team, and a rise from an individual world ranking of #250 to #7. He retired from competition following a near qualification for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics and currently enjoys sharing his training methods with fencers of all ages and levels. ABOUT MARK Mark Wheeler has been fencing for over 40 years and coaching for 15. Mark is an active competitor on the veteran epee circuit and has been a finalist in over 10 veteran NACs and National Championships. He won the Vet 60 Epee Championship at the Summer Nationals in 2015, earning a berth on the 2015 national veteran team for the world championships. His coaching efforts are focused on adult/veteran epee fencers and has been coaching his students at national events for 13 years. He’s also been involved in developing and coordinating epee training clinics for The Bay Cup since 2013, working with Michael Marx, Cody Mattern, and Soren Thompson. He coached and co-led the adult/veteran epee program at the Academy of Fencing Masters 2018-2019 and now works as an assistant coach and fences with Windy City Fencing. Mark has been leading a vet epee training class on Zoom since March 2020, with guest sessions featuring Kat Holmes, Soren Thompson, Cody Mattern, James Kaull, Sandra Marchant, and Corwin Duncan.
