SabreCoachKate will be leading a weekend intensive March 6-8 for inexperienced to mid-level fencers to take their game to the next level. All participants must bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and a recording device such as a smartphone, camera, or tablet. Downloading the free version of Coach’s Eye (or something similar) is recommended but not required. Schedule: Friday 6-9pm.
We will hold our traditional SabreCat Friday format with pizza and open bouting all evening. Coach Kate will observe all participants, take notes on their bouting, and offer written feedback about it.
Saturday 9am-4pm.
Everyone who attends practice at our normal time on Saturday morning will automatically be a part of the intensive. We will start the morning with warm-up, games, and footwork followed by a session on practicing two aspects of the off-the-line game: footwork preparations and blade placement. Saturday chores will take place at 11:45. After lunch will be guided practice bouting sessions during which all participants will have a partner video them. Coach Kate will guide everyone through analyzing the recording, deciding what to look for in the video, and using the information to improve your game. The day will finish with open bouting and application of what you learned from the prior session. Coach Kate will observe all bouting and give written feedback to all fencers. Small prizes will be awarded to fencers for a variety of accomplishments.
Sunday 10am-4pm.
Sunday’s session will help you improve your active defense. You will learn and practice how to use cues from your blade and body to get your opponent to attack when and where you want. You will also learn to use varying defensive distances to provoke your opponent into attacking and preventing them from scoring. After lunch will be another session of recording practice bouting, peer and coach feedback, and individual journaling. Small prizes will be awarded to fencers for a variety of accomplishments.
Pizza on Friday is $3 cash. The Intensive is $50 for non-members. $30 for members. Registration Link: https://cefc.sites.zenplanner.com/event.cfm?eventId=567809BA-BBC0-44BD-904C-FB3B9F5E4833
