One-day referee Clinic with Certified Referee Instructor Rylan Delap Time: 9am-5pm. Optional fencing and referee observations from 5-6:30 pm. Knickers, plastron, mask and electric equipment conforming to USA Fencing rules required to fence.

Time: 9am-5pm. The entrance to the club is at the back of the building. The normal cost of the Referree Seminar is $75.00 , the following incentives are offered: For those who have passed the online written test *BEFORE* the seminar the cost is $50, College Students $30, current refs in any weapon, $25. Rylan Delap is a Certified Referee Instructor and has now become active refereeing internationally. His fencing accomplishments include earning an A rating in foil, fencing in the NCAA for Penn State, and earning a National Div2 silver medal in sabre. Rylan's combination of high level refereeing experience and achievements as a fencer put him in a unique position to explain the role of the referee as well as the modern application of the rules. He will place particular emphasis on current convention in foil and sabre, current interpretation of strip and passing boundaries in all three weapons, providing clear and concise communication, and managing the strip to be an effective referee. Format: The seminar will place emphasis on current convention in foil and sabre, current application of strip and passing boubdaries in all three weapons, discussion of penalties, effective communication, and strip management. There will be a lunch break from 12:30 to 1:30. Who Should Come : This clinic is intended not only for those new to refereeing but also for atheletes/coaches interested in a better understanding of the rules to help their game, parents interested in a better understanding of the rules and procedures for protesting perceived misapplications, and active refs interested in moving to a higher level of proficiency. Materials : Please bring a copy of the rulebook in electronic or printed form. The current rulebook as well as the online exam are available at http://www.refereescommission.org/blog/become-a-ref/ Observations : Certified Referee Observer Bobby Gibbs will also be available to observe referees for potential ratings (typically regional ratings below 7) after the seminar concludes. Fencers are encouraged to bring their fencing gear (knickers, plastron, masks and electric equipment confirming to USA Fencing rules) to help their peers gain observation experience.
