ACFA GODFATHER III KICKOFF TOURNAMENT This is ACFA's 2011-2012 Season Opening FUNDRAISING Tournament. The weapon is epee. All rules (except those related to safety issues) are negotiable with the "Godfather" before each bout begins. (Can you say "bribes?") Bring your spare cash and your imagination. ENTRY FEE: $20 PER FENCER This is the third tournament with this format that we have held. The last tournament, held to kickoff the 2007-2008 Season, was a foil event. The bribes accepted that year included payments to force one's opponent to: 1. fence using his opposite hand 2. fence with an eyepatch on one eye 3. fence without being able to parry 4. fence without being able to advance on the strip 5. fence with wrist weights on his/her fencing arm or leg 6. fence while singing 7. fence while wearing a sabre lame and/or sabre mask 8. fence while wearing a t-shirt with holes over the lame 9. fence wearing someone else's prescription sunglasses The Godfather also had on his payroll a "hitman" who could be hired out to fence in the place of a competitor in a bout. A hitman might be available this year. The Godfather also sold "reverse the curse" coupons which allowed a fencer to turn the bribes paid for against him back on the fencer who purchased them in the first place. (WARNING: That was a very expensive bribe and will be so again if used this year.) Many of the bribes were specific as to foil last time. This year, competitors need to formulate their bribes with an eye toward maximizing their effect in an epee bout. WE WILL HAVE SOME VERY SPECIAL AWARDS in a variety of categories for the winners (and maybe the losers too). AFTER THE TOURNAMENT - Bring your picnic lunches and we will all retire with our families and friends to Memorial Park for fun and fellowship. Hopefully, around 2:00 p.m. If you want to read the story about the last tournament, go to the "Archives" page on the ACFA website and scroll down a ways to find the story. Preregistration opens on 06/27/2011. Preregistration closes on 08/26/2011.
