This year the Challenge will be Epee only in a "Canadian" format with Super Pools at the round of 16 in the Mixed event. Again, lots of good bouting for fencers in a competitive format.
Note This is a Old AskFRED event. Registrations and results are all correct, but some other data could be missing.
This year the Challenge will be Epee only in a "Canadian" format having Super Pools at the round of 16. WE and Y14E will be a regular tournament format. In more detail: Super Pools is a Canadian format to give the top 16 fencers an extra competitive format. In the round of 16 the fencers will be split into two pools of eight for 5-touch bouts. The pool results are then used to re-seed the fencers into the next round. The top four seeds earn a bye and are placed directly into the top four spots of the round of eight. The bottom four (13-16) are eliminated. The remaining eight fencers (5-12) fence a simple DE with the top four finishers moving into the bottom (5-8) of the round of eight. The bottom four are eliminated. A DE table of eight is then fenced to completion. Confusing at first glance, but very fun. Again, lots of good bouting for fencers in a competitive format. The venue location: Santa Fe Prep School 1101 Camino De Cruz Blanca Santa Fe NM 87505 This venue is a little difficult to find so please stop by Friday evening so you won't have troubles in the morning. Refer to the map on this website for directions. Fencers should also consider packing snacks because there are no convenient fast food locations close to the venue. All events are scheduled for Saturday, May 16. Close of registration times: Mixed Epee 9AM Women's Epee 12 noon Y14 Mixed Epee 2PM Preregistration opens on Wednesday, 03/11/2009.
