VENUE NEW JERSEY FENCING ALLIANCE, 54 Burnett Ave, Maplewood, New Jersey, 07040 NJFA is one of the largest fully equipped state-of-the-art fencing salles in the country. This 17,500 sf venue offers 19 grounded official USFA fencing strips with center scoring boxes with repeater lights at each end, men’s and women’s locker rooms, FREE Wireless Internet service, live results streaming of tournament information, FREE parking, and on-site fully equipped store. Overhead monitors display live results and tournament information. Live results will be streaming at live.njfencingalliance.com. NJFA’s Armory will open at 7 am for equipment check and will be available to provide personal armoring throughout the tournament. EVENTS • Events initially will have limited entries (limits may be adjusted depending on the number of sign-ins after the regular fee entry period). Wait-listed fencers will not be subject to late fees. • Ratings can be awarded, however youth events do not use the E1 or D1 classifications. This means that these events are Not Rated until they achieve a C1 level or higher. All registered/unpaid entries will be removed effective March 19, 2014 at 11:59 pm. Re-entry will be subject to walk-in fees and is subject to space availability. Walk-in fees will be charged for any unsecured entries. • Regular fee period closes March 23, 2014 11:59 pm. $35 per event. • Late fee period March 24-30, 2014 11:59 pm (entry subject to space): $45 per event • Walk-in March 31–April 5, 2014 (subject to space): $60 per event. • Payments made at the door must be in cash or check only payable to “NJFA”. You acknowledge you are entering this tournament at your own risk and release the USFA and its sponsors, EMPRE UNITED or NJFA, and referees from any liability. With entry you give consent to EMPIRE UNITED OR NJFA to obtain medical care from any licensed physician, hospital or clinic for any injury or illness that may arise during activities associated with this tournament. Photography, filming, recording, or any other form of media of the athlete during the tournament can be used by EMPIRE UNITED or NJFA and the USFA. Fencing will commence shortly after the close of check-in. Fencers should arrive at least 1 hour prior to close of check-in time. This should provide you with ample time to have their equipment checked and properly warm-up. NJFA opens at 7:00 am. EQUIPMENT CHECK Equipment check will be open at 7 am. Fencers must present to the armorer for testing their mask, lame jacket, gloves (saber), body cords and head cords. Items passing inspection will be specially marked. Masks that do not pass the 12-kg punch test will be impounded or given a visible mark to signify that the mask is "not approved for use." An armorer will be available to assist with equipment problems during the tournament. This includes club affiliation, division, classification, date of birth, gender, and the spelling of your name. Fencers should verify all scores prior to leaving the strip. Errors in posted pool results must be reported to the BC immediately (within 5 minutes). Once the DE round starts and the tableau is posted, the pool results are final and no adjustments will be allowed. The fencer’s signature on the pool sheet or DE slip implies accuracy and acceptance. Seeding: • Seeding is based initially on the fencers Current National Youth Ranking according to age group and weapon, then their letter ranking with the year of classification, then fencers with neither points nor classification. Fencers with equal classifications will be randomized within each classification. • Only ratings and points standings listed on the USFA website will be used. Check your rating at http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Fencing/Membership.aspx and national point standing at http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Fencing/Athlete-Info.aspx Each event consists of two rounds (pools and direct elimination) • Pools: One preliminary round of pools comprised of the standard 5-touch bout in 3 minutes. 100% then advance to direct elimination round. • Direct Elimination Tableau shall be generated from the results of the preliminary pool round. •Direct Elimination bouts will be for 15 touches or will end when 3 periods of three minutes, with a one-minute rest between each period have passed. During the 1-minute break, ONE PERSON designated by the fencer (team-mate, coach, or parent) may be on the strip with the fencer. • Medals will be awarded to the Top 3. There are no fence-offs for third place. • Classifications (ratings) can be awarded, however youth events do not use the E1 or D1 classifications. Withdrawal: • Withdrawal during pools: A fencer who withdraws or who is excluded is scratched from the pool, and his results are annulled as if he had not competed. • Withdrawal during DE: When, for whatever reason, a fencer cannot fence or cannot complete his bout his opponent will be declared the winner of that bout.
