It's baaack! Join us yet again for 12 hours of fencing madness as we raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation. The night consists of a sanctioned tournament, midnight feast and, of course, flepeebre. If you make one tournament this year, make it this one. Events Scheduled: Women's Epee Women's Foil Women's Saber Men's Epee Men's Foil Men's Saber Men's and Women's events will be combined if fewer than 6 competitors of either gender register Where St. Andrew's Regional High School, 880 McKenzie Ave. NOTE: This competition is NOT being held at St. Andrew's Elementary School, which is the usual practice venue for the CCFC. If you're downtown, you are at the wrong school. How much Registration is $20 for each event. For scheduling reasons you will not be able to compete in more than one weapon during the tournament. You can fence as many weapons as you feel like after the tournaments are done, though! We've seen everything from interminable 100 point foil bouts to ninja-mask-epee, and one time, Anna fencing sabre. When Registration closes at 7:00pm sharp, and fencing continues until 7:00am on Sunday. Yes, you read that right - this is an overnight tournament. Why? Because it's more fun this way. You don't have to stay up all night, but we do encourage it. There are plenty of options for those of us who aren't brave (or foolish) enough to make it until morning. After the last finals have been fenced, we'll all collapse face-first into our dinners at the annual Midnight Feast. When we've all been fed and think we can move again, it's free fencing on until morning. Who Everyone! While this tournament is sanctioned for points on the CFF rankings, it is also a great venue for the younger or up-and-coming fencers at your club. When else will you have free pistes and about 6 pre-dawn hours to fence someone you don't normally train with? Why The Fence-a-Thon raises funds for the BC Cancer Foundation, which supports cancer research and care in our province. Believe it or not, some of the most advanced cancer research in the world is being done in Victoria, and the BC Cancer Foundation, in conjunction with the BC Cancer Agency, are helping make this possible. To date, the Fence-a-Thon has raised nearly $15,000. Each year exceeds the last year's donation totals. Every dollar that is contributed in registration fees and donations goes directly to the BC Cancer Foundation - all the costs associated with running the event are donated by community members and local businesses. Donations over $20 are eligible for tax receipts. NEW THIS YEAR: Register to accept online pledges. More details coming soon.
