Sponsored by Down East School of Fencing & the Northeast Division USFA 2012 Maine Fencing Season Opener & Fencing Equipment Flea Market Events scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 2012: Northeast Division Sanctioned USFA Events: Check-in Times: 10:00 AM Mixed Saber B & Under 11:00 AM Mixed Epee B & Under 11:00 AM Mixed Y14 Foil 12:30 PM Mixed Foil B & Under 12:30 PM Mixed Epee U 1:30 PM Mixed Foil U Novice DESF Practice Tournaments (Not USFA) See Description Below. 2:30 PM Mixed Youth Novice Foil (Ages 12 and younger) Non-USFA 2:30 PM Mixed Teen Novice Foil (Ages 13 – 17) Non-USFA 2:30 PM Mixed Adult Novice Foil (Ages 18 and older) Non-USFA Eligibility (as per USFA Rules): Must be a USFA Member and events conducted with electric gear. You can join at the tournament or on-line at http://www.usfencing.org. Special Note (Rule Change): All USFA Events beginning this season for Foil require mask with conductive bibs and mask cords. B & U USFA Events - Must be born 1999 or earlier. In any tournament where children can fence with adults, the fencer must be 13 by January 1 of the competition season (August - July). B & Under = B,C,D,E,U classifications may participate. U Events = Only unrated fencers may participate. Mixed = Men & Women combined. Y14 USFA Event - Must be born 1998 - 2001. Electric gear is required for all USFA Events. Novice Non-Electric DESF Practice Tournaments: Novice Events may be conducted non-electrically with judges, or with electric equipment depending on availability. These events are sponsored by DESF as practice tournaments for new fencers and are not Northeast Division sanctioned USFA events. For more information, contact DESF at desfcg@aol.com or 207-974-8461. Pre-registration & Entry Fees: USFA sanctioned events: Entry fees: $15 per event at the door. $12 per event if you pre-register on Ask-FRED by Friday, 9/21/12. These fees only apply to DESF hosted tournaments. Pre-registration closes Saturday, 9/21/12 at 9:00 PM. Novice, non-electric events: $10 per event per person. Courtesy of pre-registration is highly encouraged, but those wishing to register at the door are welcome. All volunteer donations to the referee fund are welcome and highly appreciated to help pay or discount the entry fees of those who volunteer to referee. When appropriate, incentives (i.e., discounted entry fees) will be offered to encourage additional participation in low turnout events to increase fencing opportunities. The tournament manager reserves the right to determine the type and amount of these incentives on an individual basis. Awards: Medals for the top three finishers will be given for each event. Classifications will be awarded according to USFA tournament rules and conditions. Fencing Equipment Flea Market: As something different at this tournament, DESF will provide tables for a flea market for fencing equipment. Fencers are welcome to bring used or new equipment they wish to trade or sell. Price your own items, or John will be available to help you price any used equipment if you need assistance.
