2013 Maine Games Fencing Championships Saturday, April 13, 2013 Alfond Athletics Center: Kents Hill School, Kents Hill, ME ____________________________________________________________________________ The Maine Games Fencing Championships is the official Maine State Games for fencing. Sponsored by the Maine Games Hosted by Kents Hill School Sactioned by the Northeast Division USFA Check-in Times for Events (Saturday, April 13, 2013): 10:00 AM - Men's Saber Open 10:00 AM - Women's Sabre Open 11:00 AM - Men's Epee Open 11:00 AM - Women's Epee Open 12:30 PM - Women's Foil Open 1:00 PM - Men's Foil Open Venue: Alfond Athletics Center Kents Hill School 1614 Main Street, Kents Hill, ME 04349 http://www.kentshill.org/directions Tourist and Visitor Information: http://www.kentshill.org/visitors Entry fees: Entry fees: $20 for 1st event. $10 for each additional event. All participants must complete a Maine Games registration and waiver form which may be filled out before, (Attached to your Maine Games confirmation e-mail from AskFRED), or at the tournament. Courtesy of pre-registration is highly encouraged, but those wishing to register at the door are welcome. Pre-registration closes Thursday, 4/11/13 (9:00 PM). Walk-in registrations at door will be accepted. On-site registration will be held at the MGFC event in Kents Hill, so please arrive early to fill out forms if necessary. Please enter you e-mail in order to recieve additional information about the Maine Games. Maine Games Eligibility Requirements: All Maine Games State Fencing Championship athletes may be Maine or New Hampshire residents, OR a student attending a Maine school, OR an active member of the United States Military stationed in Maine to be eligible for Maine Games awards, or qualification for the State Games of America. All Maine Games athletes are responsible for their own insurance. A Maine Games Waiver Form must be signed to participate. USFA Membership is not required for participation in these events but recommended, but USFA classifications may only be given if all fencers are members. Tournament Eligibility (as per USFA Rules): Open Events - Must be born 1999 or earlier. In any tournament where children can fence with adults, the fencer must be 13 by January 1 of the competition season (August - July). All classifications may participate. Open Events are maybe Mixed (Men & Women combined) or specifically designated by gender. Events may be Mixed dependent upon turnout. Electric gear is required for all events. Format of the competition: USFA official rules and standards for safety will be followed. All events will be held with electric equipment. The bout committee has the final determination on all matters regarding competition. The bout committee reserves the right to combine events if necessary based on the number of entries. All athletes and spectators in the gymnasium fencing area are encouraged to wear clean athletic footwear. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE NORTHEAST DIVISION USFA: The Northeast Division has sanctioning the fencing tournament associated with the Maine State Games being held on Saturday, April 13, 2013. USFA membership is not required, but for ratings to be given in any event, all the participants in that event must be members of the USFA (USFA memberships forms will be available), and must operate under USFA guidelines, which include age categories, seeding, and rules. This is not a Northeast Division tournament, but a Maine State Games tournament, and any questions and issues related to this tournament should be directed to the Maine Games. Insurance for this event will be through the Maine Games, and through the Down East School of Fencing, not the Northeast Division. Chris Gibson and Jeffrey Eagan will be the meet managers. John Krauss is the commissioner for the Maine Games. Maine Games Awards: Will be presented to the top three finishers (tied for third) in each event (Maine Games gold, silver, 2 bronzes) at the conclusion of each competition. Attention!
