4-hour lively and entertaining mini clinic going over the basics of reffing for all three weapons. Who is giving the Clinic Bill Gelnaw and Frank Van Dyke Both are referee rated in all three weapons Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014 Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm Saber 10:00-11:00 am Foil 11:00-12:00pm (noon) Epee 12:00- 2:00 pm Cost: $5 - If you are a Bay Cup Season Pass Holder $5 - If you are not a Bay Cup Season Pass Holder Goals: • To give fencers with little or no refereeing experience an overview of the basics of refereeing, some hands-on practice, and a modest degree of comfort in stepping up to ref some Bay Cup tournaments. So that they are better prepared than many of the fencers that get called in to ref by their clubs. • It is expected that after attending this clinic the participant will be willing and interested in reffing some Bay Cup tournaments this season. • Not intended to be a substitute for the 8-hr FOC clinic. You will still need to attend an official FOC clinic to take the referee test and to start the process of becoming a rated referee. · Also, intended for other refs that would like some hands-on practice, with oversight, and updates on current interpretations of the rules. Topics to be Covered: • Review of weapon and equipment check • How to run a pool or DE • Review of hand signals • Where to watch for action (where your eyes should be looking) • Handing out warnings, yellow cards, red cards, black cards • Review of main actions/calls that will occur • Dealing with angry coaches/parents Practice Session: Please bring your fencing gear. The clinic participants will switch off fencing and reffing, so gain practice with reffing actual bouts. The clinic will have multiple rated/experienced referees there to watch, comments, and answer any questions. The idea is to get feedback on your reffing to better prepare you for reffing local Bay Cup tournaments. Preregistration opens on 09/17/2014. Preregistration closes on 10/17/2014.
