Note This is a Old AskFRED event. Registrations and results are all correct, but some other data could be missing.
This seminar will be capped at 25 participants due to room size restrictions. (The cap was 17, but we got a slightly larger room at the last minute.) The Harrisburg Division is sponsoring a referee clinic for all 3 weapons on Saturday, May 10, 10 am – 6 pm with international referee Amgad Badawi. On Sunday May 11, 11 AM – 5 PM, we will have an unsanctioned 3 weapon fun event to provide aspiring referees with an opportunity to be observed, and provisionally rated (pending successful completion of the general and specific weapon online exams). Tournament format to be determined. Amgad Badawi has been a national referee for all 3 weapons since 2000, an international referee for foil and epee since 2007, and has been a referee instructor/examiner since 2007. He has also refereed the finals at Cadet, Junior and Senior world cups. Location: West Shore YMCA 410 Fallowfield Road Camp Hill, PA 17011 717-737-9622 Fee: $75.00 cash or check payable to Harrisburg Division. To compete on Sunday's fun event it will be $10. Lunch is on your own. There are nearby options, or you may bring food onsite. Bring a notebook and a pen. You will need them! Who should attend: - Aspiring referees - who want to learn how right of way and rules are being applied at a national and international level. - Athletes - who want to improve their games and get a more complete understanding of their sport. - Coaches - who want to maintain their grasp of current interpretations and rules updates. - Parents - who want a better understanding of tournament format and the basics of sport fencing for their children. - Current referees - who need to fulfill their yearly requirement for seminar attendance or further their personal development. Four things are required to achieve a referees rating with the USFA: *A completed referee seminar *Safe Sport certification *A passing score (90%) on the online exam (both the general section and one or more weapon-specific sections). *An observation at an appropriate tournament. The seminar and Q&A on Saturday will provide a broad understanding of the role, responsibilities, and duties of a referee. However, it is NOT a study group for test preparation. The participants will need to have read the study guide, and come prepared with a willingness to learn how to be a better referee and fencer. Go to this website for more information on how to become a ref: http://www.fencingofficials.org/blog/become-a-ref/ Please make sure that you have adequately prepared by going through the Study Guide: http://fencingofficials.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Study_Guide_6-27-2012.pdf The written test is now offered online. http://fencingofficials.org/test/ Preregistration opens on 04/09/2014.
