FOC Referee Clinic with Mary Mahon

Birmingham Fencing Club is sponsoring a referee clinic for all 3 weapons. Saturday will be an 8 Hour referee seminar with Mary Mahon. The following day will be a referee observation day during BFC April tournament. The seminar and observation day are a prerequisite for written exam required for referee ratings. Mary Mahon is a long time national and international referee who holds FIE licences in both FOIL and EPEE. She has refereed dozens of World Cups, World Championships and Grand Prix events in places like Hungary, France, Germany, and Australia frequently doing finals. Mary had experience working with the Fencing Officials Commission and has been teaching new referees for many years. In this seminar you will learn rules applications, right of way, how to negotiate weapon specific situations and how to help take our sport to the next level. A completed referee seminar, Safe Sport certification, a passing score (90%) on the online exam (both the general section and one or more weapon-specific sections), and observation at an appropriate tournament. The seminar and Q&A on Saturday will provide a broad understanding of the role, responsibilities, and duties of a referee. However, it is NOT a study group for test preparation. It is expected that participants will have read the study guide and come prepared with a willingness to learn how to be a better referee and fencer.
