TFC will be hosting a epee clinic featuring five-time Olympian and fencing hall of fame member Michael Marx, an accomplished coach and fencer. The clinic is now open to veteran, senior, and junior epeeists, but the clinic will retain a special veteran's program for those fencing in the Veteran Bay Cup on Sunday at TFC. Schedule: Saturday March 10, 2012, 9AM to ~6PM Training Clinic Sunday March 11, 2012 10:30AM to ~6PM Strip coaching, observations, and feedback for Bay Cup competitors that participate in the Saturday clinic. Michael will be available during the veteran mixed epee and veteran women's epee Bay Cup competitions that will be run at TFC, to provide strip coaching and feedback to fencers that participated on Saturday. Fee: $245 for Veteran Program, both days. $175 for Saturday clinic only. Recommended for Intermediate/Advanced Fencers The proposed topics are: Mental game, Tactical bout analysis, Footwork tempo and tactics, Foot/hand tempo, Technical refinement, and Moment-to-Go. Michael will pace the day’s activities appropriately for the veteran age group, and keeping in mind that the fencers will be competing the next day. This is your chance to train with one of the world’s best fencers and coaching instructors. --Coach Marx is now heading up coaching education at the USFA American School of Fencing-- Michael Marx earned his Master of Arms degree in Poland in 1992, and is a staff member of the USFA Coaches College, coaching upper level classes, writing manuals and teaching. A five-time Olympic team member in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996, Michael is the only man in the last 50 years to make the U.S. Olympic team in two weapons: epee and foil. Michael has been enshrined in the U.S. Fencing Hall of Fame, and is a five-time USOC Athlete of the Year. In other international honors, Michael earned the silver medal at the World University Games in 1985, the highest finish ever for a U.S. team member, and the bronze medal in the 1987 Pan American Games. At the national level, Michael earned a record eight U.S. national championships in foil in 1977, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990 and 1993. He served as vice president of the U.S. Fencing Association from 1992 to 1996 and has served as the national women's epee coach. Michael’s students have earned more than 50 national titles, and have competed in the last four Olympic teams in both epee and foil. Michael was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, the first fencer to be so honored. Clinic participants will be eligible for a $10 discount of the event fees for the Veteran Bay Cup events on Sunday. (Normal event fee = $20l; Bay Cup registration fees still apply).
