The Fencers Club Foundations for Excellence presents the FC Summer Academy. The students combine mornings of entertaining educational activities with afternoons engaged in the exciting, fast-paced sport of modern fencing. This is a weekly program.

FENCING SCHEDULE (12:30-3:30PM):

EPEE, FOIL or SABRE

Modern fencing is a dynamic, exciting sport. Fencing teaches discipline, grace, agility and strategy. In our new state-of-the art, fully air-conditioned facility in Chelsea, students of all levels of experience will work with our world class coaches and athletes. Our Olympians will be available to coach and bout with the fencers. Learn the fundamentals and then get on the strip and try to outsmart your opponent in a classic battle! Good technique and safety are emphasized.

FULL DAY CAMP SCHEDULE

9:00 AM to 9:30 AM Breakfast (included)

9:30 AM to 12:00 PM

CREATIVE WRITING: Learn to write expressively without constraints. The curriculum is created by Bruno Navasky, a poet, teacher, author of several books and writer for the New York Times Sunday Book Review.

CHOOSE: MATH GAMES & LOGICAL PUZZLE SOLVING or BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

Math games and puzzle solving teach fundamentals of mathematical thinking outside of a formal math curriculum. Bridge construction is a new addition to our math portion of the camp. A student who chooses this will work with the instructor to build a bridge from various models. The program is designed for our camp by Harvard math/physics graduates and MIT graduate students who love logical games and building things that are practical and elegant.

CHESS: Learn to play chess in a program designed and supervised by Bruce Pandolfini, one of the most highly regarded chess teachers in the United States (depicted in the movie "Searching for Bobby Fisher").
