Alaska Referee & Coaching Clinic

Hi Alaska fencers! Your USAFencing Alaska Division is offering a referee/coaching-fencing clinic in Fairbanks June 14-16.

Maître d’Armes Peter Burchard will be coming in person to administer the official USA Fencing ref clinic, and administer practical exams with an eye to certify referees.

In addition, there will be an 8 hour coaches/fencing clinic to learn group lessons, drills, footwork, blade work and tactics. These will include offense, defense, counter offense, first and second intention, problem solving and strip coaching. This will be hands-on, so bring your gear.

There will also be a tournament to evaluate referees, practice strip coaching and problem solving.

All prospective refs: Please take the written exam before the clinic, and bring proof that you have passed it to the practical exam. https://member.usafencing.org/store/exams

The proposed schedule:

REFEREE CLINIC

Friday evening 6-10 first half of the referee clinic

Saturday morning 8-12 finish referee clinic (8 hours total)

COACHING CLINIC

Saturday afternoon-evening coaching/fencing clinic(8 hours)

Sunday: tournament, referee practical exam, strip coaching practice, coaches’ exams

Cost: $150 for one class, $200 for both classes (cost for online exam is separate)
